The Tramuntana mountains. This is the main mountain range on the Balearic Islands. It is located in the north-east of the island of Mallorca, hence its name, as the “tramontana” is the wind that comes from this direction. It is home to Mallorca’s three main reservoirs: Cúber, the Gorg Blau and the military one used by the base at Puig Major. This mountain range gives its name to one of the regions of Mallorca. Its main peak, at 1445 metres high, is Puig Major.

Estellenchs. The town with the lowest population on the island, with little more than 300 inhabitants. Close by is Estellencs cove, a small peaceful cove that is difficult to access, often frequented by locals. In this rocky cove there is no sand, and the water is usually very clean.

Andratx. This beautiful town is one of the Mallorcan towns with the highest percentage of foreign residents, in fact roughly a quarter of the population, including some celebrities such as Claudia Schiffer and Fernando Trueba. It is worth visiting the Port of Andratx, which attracts luxurious yachts and spectacular sailing boats.

Sóller. There is a railway line linking Sóller with Palma de Mallorca, which stops at Son Sardina and Buñola on the way. This is an electric train, which has been preserved with the same line and machinery (locomotive, cars, tracks) since the start of the 20th century. There is also a tram route between Sóller and the Port of Sóller.

Valldemossa. A town with steep, narrow streets, where the main attraction is Valldemossa Monastery and the memory left behind by the winter spent there by the famous romantic pair Chopin and George Sand in 1838-1839. It was here that Chopin composed his “Preludes, Op. 28″ and Sand wrote “A winter in Mallorca”. Other illustrious characters that spent spells in the Monastery include Rubén Darío, Jorge Luis Borges, Jovellanos, Santiago Rusiñol and many others. Today, Valldemossa is home to several renowned painters.

Planisi. A Mallorcan estate, recently bought by the Government of the Balearic islands, for public use and enjoyment.
